Lonne Johnston is an artisan maker who worked, I believe, in West Virginia and sold his pipes primarily through Frenchy’s.  I’m told that he is no longer making pipes.  I have three that I will be selling and all are very nicely executed traditional shapes and all carry the maker’s highest grade, three hearts, each with “LJ” within the it.  Johnston’s pipes of this grade originally sold for about $150.  This piece is quite reminiscent of the Dunhill LB and is approximately the same size.  It’s beautifully made and well engineered.  The tenon end is funnelled and is right at the shoulder of the mortise.  The stem is vulcanite.  There are a couple of very light, almost invisible surface imperfections.
